7-20-19 - On our own again
/Day 34. By Leanne
The NCC tour was jam-packed with fun and excitement (and incredibly well-organized mind you as we just followed along) so we need a bit of a rest as we go on to explore Tokyo on our own for a few days. We sojourn to our new abode for a few days to find the skinniest 3rd floor house that I have ever stepped in. However, it had its advertised four bedrooms which houses our crew nicely. And toilet seats that rise automatically when you open the door - who could ask for anything more?
People have asked me how to do you plan for the everyday stuff during a year long trek like this. My husband would answer that he spent 6 months researching, preparing, and prepping and I would say “you really can’t prepare.” I am very thankful for the hubby’s insights - we have cords galore, prescriptions to cover a basic infection.
However, Corey wakes up with a fever and other unpleasant symptoms and I need to take him to a doctor in Tokyo. Hmm? Of course, our tech-enabled, researching kids come to the rescue as John finds an English-speaking clinic in Tokyo open on a Saturday that takes our global health insurance (another thing the hubby found and planned). Within the hour, Corey has been seen, diagnosed, tests back (within five minutes his blood test results were back), and prescription in hand. Within two days, he’s much better off. Hmm, Japanese health care system gets an A+.
While I’m hoping for some slower pace now, I realize John has us booked at the same pace as we have to rush over to Robot Restaurant where we meet up for a two-hour show full of lights, robots, and anime actors galore. Its fast paced, lively, upbeat, and incredibly entertaining. We must have walked down at least four flights of stairs from street level and I learn quickly that while Tokyo has high risers it also has maximized its sub terrain space admirably as well. The first act featured traditional samurai with drums and all. One of their sets is devoted to international peace and friendship. And of course I shed a tear when they play “We Are the World”. Lovely! But then they followup with two large fish attacking each other in a Fish Fight. Still, it made me laugh, it made me cry, and the kids and hubby loved it. Another score!
