Day by day summary of our time in Port Douglas experiencing the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree rainforest.

Today is one of the highlights of the trip so far as we spend the day exploring the Daintree Rainforest which at 180 million years old is the oldest rainforest on the planet.

The kids visit a local wildlife habitat and pet kangaroos and take pictures with Kuala bears while I continue revising and reprinting the Chinese visa applications. I pick an adventurous local Australian restaurant but the kids aren’t too thrilled with my choice.

We return to the Reef on an ultra speed boat to the Low Isles in search of turtles and then take a river boat cruise in search of crocodiles. What will we find and what does a turtle guarantee mean away?

The day is spent completing applications for our China visas that we are trying to get when we are in Sydney. We salvage the day with a spectacular sunset cruise.

Day takes us to The Great Barrier Reef, the wordless largest reef, where the family spends the day scuba diving and snorkeling.

After an overnight flight with no sleep, we survive a harrowing trip driving from Cairns to Port Douglass on the wrong side of the road and arrive at our Air BnB for the relaxation week we’ve built in the trip.
