11-23-19 - Welcome to Malaysia!
/Day 160. Kyle & Leanne joint blog.
Up and out. We move again and by now, it’s old hat and we can pack in 15 minutes flat. Today we head from Bali Airport to Kuala Lumpur to Kuching, Malaysia.
We have chosen Kuching thanks to one of our travel advisors, Robert from the website “Leave Your Daily Hell” who helps plan international itineraries while encouraging people to leave the daily grind of their life to go on extended trips traveling the world. In planning a trip of this magnitude, Kyle worked with Robert on the selection of countries and in what order to traverse from one to the other. No easy feat with a goal of 60 countries in a year. Leanne had already been to Kuala Lumpur 20+ years ago so Kuching was selected for our Malaysia destination.
Kuching is the city in the state of Sarawak in the country of Malaysia on the island of Borneo. Say that ten times fast. Borneo is the 3rd largest island in the world (behind Greenland and New Guinea) and is comprised of three countries including Brunei and Indonesia in addition to Malaysia. This part of Malaysia was once under the rule of a British family named Brooke’s who apparently were ahead of their time, supporting and loving the multiple cultures in the area.
We arrive at our hotel, The Grand Margherita, which is on the riverfront. Kuching is a city that acts as an entry point to the jungles of Borneo so our week will be a mixture of exploring the city and jungle adventures. We are excited to explore it all!
