6/29/19 - Is it possible for a person to melt in the London heat?
/I found are flat on booking.com and thought I was getting a great deal. A 2 bedroom with living room and kitchen for less than 1 hotel room for 3 people would have cost. By this point, we realize the booking conveniently mentioned the WIFI does not work, flat is located over a bar / nightclub and there is no air conditioning. This is relevant because today was the hottest day in London in 40 years so we have to effectively chose between windows open to get the air but stay up all night listening to thump, thump or windows closed but the flat becomes a hot box. We mostly opted for closed windows until 3am and then if someone is up, they open the windows. We do this only to discover the trash gets picked up a 7am and thousands of bottles are clinched and smashed against each other.
Today includes Buckingham Palace and the changing of the guards. Ashlynn is very excited to see where the queen lives. The guards are not supposed to move and have 2 hours on / 4 hours off shifts. It is an honor but not my type of job as I don’t think I can handle the boredom.
The other highlight of the day is the British Museum which is a museum of cultural art objects and antiquities. There are a lot of artifacts from the Roman Empire on display which was a hit with John.
For dinner, Leanne and I have a dinner with friends from business school. Three live here and one from India who happened to be visiting London the same weekend we were. Great time catching up. After, we met Leanne’s friend who attended our wedding 20 years ago but we haven’t see since. Meeting up with friends around the world is definitely going to be one of the best aspects of the trip.
