10-27-19 - Last chill day in Thailand
/Day 133. Leanne & Kyle joint blog.
Today is our last day and we have nothing planned and that’s a good thing.
After a late breakfast, we gather the teens for tennis, basketball and ping pong at the activities. We are at it a good 1-2 hours until the heat gets the best of us and we head off for swimming and water frisbee.
The weather looks daunting - another of the now expected rainstorms on its way so Leanne and Kyle head to town for another round of indoor cheap massages and capture killer lightening over the ocean photos on the way. After massages, Leanne signs up John, Justin & Corey for a nighttime kayak (grabbing the last three spots) to see the bioluminescent creatures that surround the beach.
Leanne and Kyle return to the resort and take stock of all the animals encountered during the past week including brown monkeys, black monkeys with white faces, the man-eating 4 foot iguana, giant turtles, exotic colorful birds, a platitude of fish, frogs and monitor lizards. We go to the Cave Grotto to watch a gorgeous sunset over the island mountains and then meet up with the clan to head to dinner by the beach.
Life is good. But then it’s not. One of the teens kayaks malfunctioned and he returns early and a bit crabby but it’s all in the mindset. Once we shared that at least he didn’t sink and drown into the dark waters of the Indian Ocean, a huge smile emerges. And then when the other two return saying that fish jumped into the kayaks, we knew someone up above was looking out for him.
Our dinner conversation was lovely once again. Gone are the days we sit staring at phones during meals.
As we go to sleep, the dreaded realization that we HAVE to leave Thailand tomorrow morning. After a week of lots of adventure and relaxing, our departure hits us like a ton of bricks.
Here at Railay Beach, we collectively hiked, cleaned up the ocean a bit, scuba dove, snorkeled, sea kayaked, night kayaked, jetted through the Phi Phi Islands, watched sunrise and sunsets, rock climbed, swam, yoga’d, played tennis and basketball, enjoyed watching fierce rainstorms over the ocean, and even learned how to cook Thai food. Not to mention that at a moment’s notice; we find ourselves on a spontaneous safari as we are cohabiting the property With over 100 monkeys and countless giant four-foot lizards. The eco-friendly staff shared “they have been here longer than we have been a hotel here.”
It’s easy to see why we didn’t want to get on the boat to the minivan to the Krabi airport. Who wants to leave an oasis? But we know we must stay true to our goal to see as many countries as possible even if we fall in love with one. What a score, and highly recommend this relatively secluded little bit of heaven on Earth.
