7/2/19 - World Cup derails local dinner

Our good travel karma continues as we get our bags, get 2 Ubers and arrive at our place with no mishaps. Our Air BnB flat is in a perfect location and very spacious compared to our London place.  Like London though, it is a 5thfloor walk-up with no lift. Good for getting the legs in shape.

Our flat is on the Royal Mile street which has a lot of shops, pubs and restaurants.  The main thing I notice is the old stone and architecture of the buildings.  Everything is very medieval looking and evokes GOT flashbacks.  Leanne is excited because she has never been to Scotland (I went with my mom in 1997) and has ancestry heritage that traces back to Scotland (in addition to Ireland).  The kids are holding up well given the pace.

For dinner, we try to find a Scottish pub or restaurant to get the local food box checked off but in turns out England is playing USA in women’s World Cup football semi-finals. I guess Scotland being part of UK with England is enough to generate enough interest that we can’t find anywhere Scottish to eat.  So our fall back plan is Jack & Benny’s New York Italian restaurant.

We only have 2 full days in Scotland so we need to plan them out at dinner.  John has really embraced his role as group travel planner.  Leanne and I are more than happy to defer to him to plan our days.  We go to bed knowing tomorrow will be a jam packed day. Oh and the US Woman’s team beats England 2-1 to make it to the World Cup finals!
