7-14-19 - Solar powered bombs & the Korean authorities
Day 28. We have to wake up at 3:45am to get the flight from Seoul to Osaka. No one is even remotely happy about getting up this early but don’t look at me, NCC planned this one not me.
We are getting our travel act down slowly but surely. However; Korea throws a new “challenge” at us. After getting boarding passes and checking our bags, we get on the security line. As soon as we do, a security person comes and grabs Leanne and tells her she needs to come in the back room. After our DMZ checkpoint experience, I’m thinking about worse case outcomes.
We inch up in the security line and are almost to the front with still no word from Leanne. Ok, I’m worried now. I get out my phone to check the time and see 5 missed calls from Leanne. Ut-oh, not the best time to forgot to turn my ringer back on. I call Leanne. “What the hell is this black thing with a blue screen?” she demands. Hmmm. I have no idea what she’s talking about. “You know the black, rectangular thing with the screen. They probably think it’s a bomb and I don’t even what it is.” Turns out it was a solar powered charger (see culprit pictured below).
“What do we need that for? In case the entire country of Japan has a power outage?” Hmmm…I decide that a response along the lines of “oh yeah, well when we get to Tibet and Nepal and the sun is only source of power, you’re going to thank me then” might not go over so well while she is being detained by Korean authorities. I’ll have to rethink the solar power charger strategy when we go to China.
The rest of way is uneventful and we are off to Osaka, Japan.
