7/5/19 - Leaving Edinburgh on a jet plane
Day 19. Today is travel day to Dublin, Ireland. This will be another of the easiest flights on the trip – 1 hour flight and no time change as London to Edinburgh was. We give ourselves a sleep in morning after two early wake-up days. I am up early anyway and decide to get my packing done. I have the iPhone stopwatch on and time how long it takes to pack. I clock in at 50 min. Much better than the previous stops which I didn’t time but know where well over an hour but there is still room to improve.
My was feeling a little too confident after the last smooth flight as I realize that I haven’t checked-in for pre-purchased the bags. As I’m trying to figure out how many bags can be carried on and how many I need to check, Leanne asks what time we’re leaving for the airport. Twelve O’clock I say to which she responds, “Isn’t check-out 11am?” Hmmm…oh crap, it’s 10:45am and I totally missed that little detail. I frantically message the Air BnB host asking for another hour to check-out. At 10:55am, she responds with a firm no, the cleaning people are 5 mins away and they can’t start until we leave so we have to be out in 5 mins. We go into fire drill mode and are out by 11:11am as the cleaning people stand there looking at us disapprovingly while we take bag after bag out of the flat.
Down at the bottom in the main stairway, I still have to check us in and pre-purchase check bags. So Leanne takes the kids to look at St. Giles Cathedral next door while I sit on a cold cement floor going through the check-in process.
The actual airport process goes relatively smoothly and we are off to Ireland!
